Job description:

Duration: 2-year fixed term

Salary: £23,000 over two years (15 hours per week)

Responsible to: Director

Duties:

• To set up and lead a project committee, to include those with expertise and user-interest in South Downs songs, heritage and landscape.
• To identify suitable partner venues in which to hold song and learning workshops and to liaise with the partner venues throughout the term of the project.
• To appoint specialist tutors and with them run the song and learning workshops.
• To organise and arrange the publicity for the song and learning workshops in consultation with the South Downs Society’s Marketing and Fundraising Officer.
• To establish and manage groups of volunteers undertaking local heritage research.
• To work with the heritage learners and specialist tutors to select South Downs Songs to be learned and recorded.
• To work with local recording studios and CD publishers to produce recordings of the songs.
• To oversee the writing and production of the South Downs Songs booklet and to liaise with the Marketing and Fundraising Officer over its design and production.
• To lead on the creation of the project website in consultation with the Marketing and Fundraising Officer.
• To write and distribute publicity relating to the project, including Press Releases in consultation with the Marketing and Fundraising Officer.
• Maintain records and undertake monitoring of the project’s progress.
• Organise and co-ordinate the launch of both the book and the CDs in consultation with the Marketing and Fundraising Officer.
• To carry out other duties identified by the Director of the South Downs Society which are compatible with the aims and outcomes of the project

 

Person Specification

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

• Adult Teaching qualification (City and Guilds 7307 or 7407 or Cert Ed.)
• At least three years experience of teaching in the adult education sector.
• Degree in history, geography, landscape studies or similar
• Familiarity with South Downs songs
• Experience of managing community heritage projects
• Experience of working with volunteers
• Proven project management skills
• Experience of gathering and compiling information for publication
• Good IT skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well on own initiative and to meet deadlines
• Well organized
• Experience of managing contracts
• Flexible, problem-solving, can-do attitude

Desirable:

• Detailed knowledge of South Downs songs
• Proven singing or musical ability
• Experience of writing Press Releases and working with the Media
• Background in journalism or publishing
• Experience of working with recording studios
• Experience of producing CDs
